- A comprehensive knowledge of and experience with traffic engineering and transportation planning methods;
- Experience with large complex traffic operations studies;
- Attention to detail and organization of work; and
- Excellent writing, communication and public speaking skills.

Minimum Requirements: 7 year's of traffic engineering experience, or 5 year's experience with professional engineer license (If not California licensed, must obtain California registration within 1 year).

Senior Transportation Planner - Modeler
(POSITION CURRENTLY AVAILABLE)

Dowling Associates, a team-oriented firm specializing in state-of-the-art traffic engineering and transportation planning consulting services, is seeking a self-motivated professional experienced in transportation demand modeling and highly motivated to advance the quality of transportation demand modeling. The successful candidate must demonstrate:
- A comprehensive knowledge of and experience with demand modeling methods;
- Knowledge and experience working with transportation modeling software , such as Cube, VISUM, TransCAD, and/or Emme3;
- Strong attention to detail and organization of work; and
- Good writing and communication skills.

Minimum Requirements: 5 year's experience in travel demand modeling.
Certificate(s) of completion for one or more advanced modeling software application courses, desirable. Both positions are available in our Oakland, California office and require that the applicant possess a valid driver's license and be eligible to work in the United States. Telecommuting options within the continental United States will be considered after an initial trial period. Salary is dependent on qualifications. Associate Transportation Planner
(POSITION CURRENTLY AVAILABLE)

Summary:

  • Research and analyze the impact of land-use and travel patterns on the transportation network using computer models and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software.
  • Research and forecast traffic growth and develop plans to mitigate the impact of traffic growth on the transportation network.
  • Use traffic engineering principles to analyze traffic flow conditions on the road.
  • Research and develop strategies to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion on road network.
  • Conduct other research including developing solutions to technical problems, data collection, model development and writing, and publishing technical reports; and prepare proposals for federal agencies (such as DOT).
  • Key software tools include VISSIM, CUBE/TP+, EMME/2, TRAFFIX, TRANSCAD, ArcGIS, Matlab and SAS.

Requirements:

Masters Degree in Transportation Engineering (or Civil Engineering with a focus on transportation engineering or planning) or academic equivalent, one year of experience in the field, and background in traffic engineering, transportation planning, traffic operations simulation methods, traffic and transportation analysis using transportation software, fieldwork/data collection related to technical analysis activities, and transportation and GIS software.

Associate Transportation Planner/Engineer
(POSITION CURRENTLY AVAILABLE)

Dowling Associates, Inc. is currently accepting applications for entry level professional staff. Associate Transportation Engineers and Planners are the supporting staff to our Senior engineers and planners. They may be assigned to one or more members of the senior staff to provide technical assistance on projects. They are responsible for conducting the technical analysis activities associated with the work of the Company.

Requirements:

• MA/MS degree in transportation field, or a BA/BS degree plus minimum 2 years of experience in profession.

• Strong writing and communications skills.

• Capability to work with Principals and other members of the Company.

• General knowledge of traffic engineering, transportation planning, traffic operations, simulation methods and procedures.

• Working experience with MS-WORD, EXCEL or similar commercial word processing/spreadsheet software. Visual Basic, or other programming knowledge helpful.

• Training on Access, Arc View or similar database and GIS software.

• Knowledge of and training on one or more of following transportation software: Traffix, HCS, Synchro, Transyt, Passer, Freq, Cube, Minutp, Tranplan, Emme/2, Viper/Tp+, Transcad, Visum, Corsim, SimTraffic, Vissim, Paramics.

Duties:

• Perform specific technical tasks as directed by senior staff.

• Responsible for learning the software programs used by the Company for simulation, traffic operations and travel forecasting.
